Recension means : A critical revision of a text (or concept) incorporating the most plausible elements found in varying sources. The Aegyptians periodically revised and refreshed their beliefs. “The texts are so numerous the interpretations so varied and uneven that it’s virtually impossible to arrive at a single objective definition of what the AE religion meant. But does that mean that a comprehensive analysis of AE religion is beyond our reach? Or is there another way to look “objectively” at the problem of AE religion.”

Egyptology has made great progress in recent years, but in addition to the academic approach, this site is interested in practice of Aegyptian religion today. The New Kingdom Order of the Phoenix is a Thothian school of Magic. I am a qualified academic and have been fascinated by Aegypt all my life. Undergraduate research into the primal eye pointed me towards the many Aegyptian texts that deal with cosmic eye manifestations. Ithell Colquhoun (Golden Dawn Order of the Phoenix/ Pyramid and Sphinx 1960’s, 1970’s) had a strong interest in Aegypt, and visited the important sites. I hope in 2009 to organise a tour following her path as recorded in “The Blue Anubis.”
Triumphing against adversity, often fighting alongside the gods, is a repeated theme. In the game of Senate (Senet, sn.t) we are presented with an activated summary of the New Kingdom Netjerworld philosophy. During play we strive for leadership of the Council of Thirty (against an opponent), thereby to become a god our self. Senate combines AE principles of Law, Governance, Religion and the Calendar.
Aegyptian religion is highly moral, but does not present in as prescriptive way as some religions. You would not want to commit sin, which pollutes the Ka, in the same way as you do not want to eat food
that is poisonous and bad for the constitution. Good health is stressed (Chapter of Transformation into Ptah). Sex is seen as a generally healthy and essential activity. The connection between sin and guilt is not easy to find in Aegyptian texts.
Aegyptian morality has Ma'at at its roots, and it is this (dual) quality of Truth with Justice that underpins the judgement process, and everyday morality. AE is a massive civilisation and philosophy and we each strive to reinterpret it for ourselves. Here is an Aegyptian Chronology. The 42 Declarations of Innocence are almost certainly are template for the 10 Commandments. Aegyptians “Khepered” (transformed into/ acted as) their deities, and weren't as stuffy as modern organised religion. There are many examples of humor in Aegyptian literature.
I will add to this site over time. A book on Senate is near to completion and will be available from our Book, Software and Resources page. Please explore the various links from this site, but understand that this author does not necessarily endorse any content. Always check back to the source texts for yourself if in doubt.
